A native of Philadelphia (Chester) Pennsylvania , Mr. Bates joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1987 to 1995 receiving an honorable discharge after an 8 year career serving in Desert Storm/Desert Shield in the middle east, Operation Sharp Edge in Monrovia Libera among countless other operations and is now a Combat disabled Veteran. After leaving the Marines he spent several years as a Federal Officer with the Department of Justice. In 1997 Mr. Bates obtained his real estate license with Georgia Real Estate Commission after 3 productive years as an agent in 2001 he became a Broker/owner and opened Bates Realty Group Inc. and became one of the fastest growing firms in Metro Atlanta either building homes or selling residential and commercial properties which he still operates today.

January 2005 Mr. Bates expanded and opened Bates Mortgage Group, LLC. with Georgia Department of Banking and Finance originating and refinancing primary, secondary and investment properties and via FHA, VA, Conventional, Jumbo, USDA and other niche products. After a brief exit of the industry in 2009 after the financial collapse he took his talents to the middle east toggling between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Qatar and Egypt helping either finance or consult on billion dollar commercial properties. Upon his return in 2011 he expanded his expertise in the financial world of investments (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual funds)  holding Series 6, 63 & 65 licenses thru the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as Life, health, home and auto insurance licenses with Georgia Insurance commission where he helps clients with Comprehensive Financial & Retirement Planning under Bates Financial Group, LLC. which he operates under the "BATES" Conglomerate. Today Jamar runs the day to day operations of all three companies, Bates Mortgage Group, LLC is the main chassis where he is licensed in 12 states and is arguably the ONLY African American owned Mortgage LENDER in the country.  

He has been in a plethora of national publications such as forbes Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Black enterprise as well as Who’s Who in Black Atlanta, and the Atlanta tribune to name a few.

When he is not totally engaged in helping his clients, Jamar enjoys a Peredermo 10th anniversary Churchill Cigar, skiing, snowboarding, cycling, weight lifting, playing chess, gun range as he is a Certified Firearms instructor (both while in the Marine Corps and as a Federal officer wth the Department of Justice) SCUBA diving as he is a PADI Scuba Instructor & Master Scuba diver , playing the piano as he is a concert pianist and flying airplanes as he is also an FAA rated private pilot and traveling internationally 2-3 months out of the year with his lovely wife Regina of 14 years.
